Coalfields Community Futures events across the country are a huge success

The 5 communities in this year’s Coalfields Community Futures Programme have just completed their community engagement work, culminating in a series of community events in Whitecross, Benarty, Tranent & Elphinstone, Kirkconnel & Kellaholm. The final event was held in Kincardine yesterday, where over 540 people turned out to participate and vote for their priorities. There was also a host of local talent to provide entertainment, including the Kincardine Pipe Band, the Boys Brigade band, local singers Morgan Bennett and Adele Gavin, and the Jenkins School of Highland Dance.

Tom McAughtrie, Scottish Trustee of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and Jim Leishman, Provost of Fife both spoke at the event, and congratulated the local steering group for their efforts. STAR Development Group are delivery partners for the Coalfields Community Futures Programme which is now in its 3rd year, and has supported 13 ex-mining communities to prepare 5 year Community Action Plans, leading to increased community capacity to regenerate their local area.
